Hair Mask for African American (or just hair that needs some TLC) Hair
With the winter season upon us, it’s time to keep our stands extra moisturized to ensure less hair fall and breakage. I swear by this hair mask-it’s done wonders for my hair! I do this hair treatment about once every two weeks.
Here are the things you’ll need:
- 1 teaspoon of Neem oil
- 2 tablespoons of castor oil
- 5 tablespoons of olive oil
- 1 half of a banana
- 1 half of an avocado
That’s it! Now mix all the ingredients together in a blender (if you don’t have a blender you can use a mortar and pestle or just a spoon in a bowl and mix and mash until the consistency is smooth.)
Wet your hair thoroughly (no need to shampoo just yet-unless your hair has a ton of caked on products and build-up) then apply the hair mask from roots to end saturating it nicely. If you have super thick, super long hair and need more product just go back to the kitchen and mix up some more! Alternatively, if your hair is very fine and short you can use less.
After applying the hair mask, wrap your hair up in a shower cap and then a towel. If you don’t have a shower cap just use a plastic grocery bag (it might not look chic but it’ll do the trick. Leave on for at least one hour. You can leave it on for a few hours or even overnight, the choice is yours. I usually leave mine in for about 2.5 hours.
When you’re ready to wash it out, rinse the mask out thoroughly with warm water, then apply your shampoo of choice (try not to use a shampoo with sulfate, it’s harsh and can strip the hair of beneficial oils), after shampooing, follow up with a conditioner of your choosing.
Towel dry and say hello to super luscious, super soft locks!
